You're Under Arrest!

No, I'm not a cop. One of my recent trips to Akihabara got me a full non-sport trading card set.

You're Under Arrest (逮捕しちゃうぞ) was originally published as a manga (Japanese comic) from 1986-1992 in the magazine Monthly Afternoon. Some of the chapters have been published in English by Dark Horse Comics. A four-episode anime show aired from September 1994 to November 1995, followed by an anime series of 47 additional episodes from November 1996 to September 1997. This was followed by a 21-episode anime series aired almost daily in March and April 1999, and feature-length movie also released in 1999. Add to that a game and 26-episode anime in 2001, an episode-length video in 2002, a 9-episode live-action show that same year, and another series starting in late 2007 of 24 more episodes.

As you might have guessed, it's a story about police officers, with some typical comedy-drama police themes and a buddy-cop dynamic. It revolves around two female officers in Tokyo, their friendship, and their personal and professional lives.
The binder's cover can be seen above. Based on the copyright on the cards, I'm assuming the set is based on the 1996-1997 series of 47 episodes. Given the expiration dates on the prize cards seen at the end of this post, it's likely they were issued in late 1997, possibly after the anime completed its run.

The entire set appears to be there, and I've scanned it page by page, front and back, for those who are interested. Keep in mind that I didn't flip the cards in their pages when scanning, so the top-left card in the left-hand scan is card one, and the top-right card in the right-hand scan is card one. The inserts come first, followed by the large base set; the last page has promos and offer cards.

If you're interested, the video above is one of the episodes from the anime, dubbed in English. (Granted, it may not stay up for long.)

Once I finally get caught up on all the other anime I have to watch, this series might be next on the list!

  1. These cards look awesome! Ever since I was little, I've been fascinated by Japanese comics. I'd buy them and try to figure out what was going on by looking at the pictures. As for anime... I watched a few Japanese cartoons. But outside of Robotech, I don't think I've watch any in the past 25 years. If I find some time I'd consider watching this one. Any cartoon where a girl is going to work hungover in the first few minutes has to be interesting.

    1. I was talking about cop shows with my students and brought this one up - out of three students only one was really familiar with it. There are some really good anime out there, really for any interest.
