Progress on Real Venus: Women on Foil

Without any context, this post's title certainly can be taken a lot of ways.

By the way, I am going to try shifting my posting time. I gather that it doesn't really matter to most of you all. I use an RSS feed to keep up with blogs, and I'm guessing that many of you do too. When I first started publishing at 3 AM, I lived in California. I could write a post after spending the day out and still have it finished well before the 3 AM publishing time. Now that I live in Japan, that 3 AM time doesn't make much sense to me. That's 8 PM here, while I'm still at work. So 7 AM in California is midnight in Japan, allowing me a chance to get something ready if I can't prepare stuff beforehand. Will it matter to you all? Only time will tell...

Real Venus was a women-in-sports set issued from 2009 to 2015. As I posted recently, the set was renamed Shining Venus and shifted from a late-year release to early-year issue, so no set was issued in 2016.

I have all seven sets issued to date. Each release includes autographs, foil signature parallels, and chekis, just like I outlined before. Additionally, BBM includes a typical foilboard insert set. I have a few complete ones, but I'm working on the rest. I went to a couple card shops on Sunday and picked up some cards to get me closer to finishing the run.
The 2009 set is the only one with six cards. And I realized while scanning that this set is called Venus Eye. I hadn't noticed the stylized text and thought, given the card numbering (RV-*), that the Real Venus title on the front also was the name of the insert set.
I only had two yesterday, but these four were all available. 2009 is finished!
The 2010 set is called Heartful Venus.
I added three cards to the 2011 insert set, called Aphrodite.
2012 netted just one card. The set is called Artemis. Note the change in style, using two photos instead of just one. That template has continued through 2017.
I have the 2013, 2015, and 2017 sets, so that just leaves Birth of Venus, from 2014. These three cards completes that set, so I can mark that one off the list, too!

In case you're wondering, that leaves me needing: two cards for 2010, one card for 2011, and two cards for 2012. The 2012 cards might be the toughest, or at least most expensive, as those two are pretty popular. But my goal is to have them all finished by the end of the year!

  1. I'm embarrassed to admit this... but I did a Google search on Kana Ichikawa after reading this post. She's gorgeous!

    1. I believe you're not the only guy to have this opinion! She's on my "autographs wanted" list from Real Venus.

    2. Good luck buddy! I'm sure they're pricey, so I'll have to live vicariously through your collection.

    3. Kana isn't the cheapest but it looks like she's affordable. There are a few who seem to run $50 or more that I would like to get, but I think she hovers around $20.
