Of Travels and Set Building: Calbee Can Do Good Photos

My post from a couple of days ago was a little misleading. I didn't only get the cards you saw, and the do have newer cards. I just didn't look enough to give you a really accurate judgement of their stock.

At the Gamagori store, I found several Calbee and BBM cards I needed for sets. Here is just a small sample.
I knocked off a bunch of the premium inserts from my 2016 set!
Calbee's checklists always have the best photos.
I don't know about you, but when I play baseball, I like to use the whole bat.
This All Star card is from the last series of Calbee's 2004 set. And as you can see from this and the other above cards, great photography isn't that far gone from Calbee's offerings. Hopefully this year's second series set was just an anomaly and they'll provide a bit more pop in their future releases. This Kawasaki card really is an amazing photo. It's a non-traditional angle, and you have both Kawasaki and the fielder, showing action and interaction on the field.

By the way, Calbee... and BBM, if you're reading, too... I'm always willing to offer my services as a photographer!

Speaking of BBM...
I'm slowly inching closer to a complete Century's Best Nine set.
It's been quite a while since BBM's done a really good historical set that reaches back to the roots of NPB and Japanese baseball...

Until next time!

  1. I've always liked that checklist with Atsuya Furuta on it. The photo is from the game he got his 2000th hit. It was at Botchan Stadium in Matsuyama in Shikoku.
