Another Pack of Opening Day?!

 So I guess I lied when I said just one pack, huh?  Well, I didn't mention it in the post, but it looked like that pack had been dropped before I bought and opened it, so I returned it and ended up with one which didn't have any dinged corners.

 So again, the base card design.

 And the rest. I think the player selection here was a little better.

 Another rainbow foil parallel.

 And one of the less-interesting insert sets in Opening Day. I say less interesting, but it's still more fun than most of flagship's inserts.

And the retro-feel Franchise Flashback set. This I like because of the design alone, but then you toss in the throwback uniforms and it's even better. Except the helmet is the same as always.

So that's it for Opening Day! I swear. Just one more pack of something from my trip to Cali in June and it's back to NPB cards. I can hear the collective groan or sigh of relief, depending on which side of the room you're sitting on...

Packing It In: 2015 Topps Opening Day Jumbo

Don't get me wrong. I like a lot of higher-priced stuff out there. Opening a box of Ginter would be a blast, I enjoyed my recent boxes of Americana, and if someone gave me some Triple Threads packs I wouldn't turn them down.

But let's face it, my cardboard budget calls for singles, not gambles. So I don't buy a lot of packs. I can't stay completely away from busting, and the cheaper stuff can end up being even more fun than the high-end shiny.

 I always spend a 10-spot or so on Opening Day. I can usually find packs here in Japan, and when I went back to the US I grabbed a jumbo hanging pack from Target.

 Time wasn't on my side, and all those base cards ended up in one photo. Other than the logo, they seem the same as flagship Topps.

 I like the "fan" element in Opening Day. There may not be game pictures in the Stadium Scenes set, but I really appreciate Topps getting a unique insert set into their product. I really hope this continues.

 I got one of the shiny parallels. That's all there is to say about this. Rainbow foil is kind of pretty but really foilboard doesn't float my boat.

Where the flagship inserts are seemingly pointless, Opening Day has some good topical sets worth looking at, like this one here.

As the season is drawing to a close, I think I'm about done with Opening Day until next year. But I know I can look forward to another season of cheap fun!

2015 Topps MLB Chipz: Just a Pack

While posting about the gigantic awesome package Kenny sent my way, I mentioned that I really liked Chipz. While I won't be busting boxes (yet), I did grab a pack for myself from Target.

"Look! Colors! And really popular players! Buy me!"

 One of these is in every pack. I don't know how to play, though...

 Ah, instructions. I see. But will I be playing? Nope..

Justin Verlander is a good start. he's one of the players I collect and after starting the season on the DL it looks like he's doing okay. Too bad the Tigers are having a horrible year.

 A green chip with the scary mascot Mr. Met! Sweet!

And Greinke is a magnet, I believe. You may notice that there are only three Chipz here. Well, I don't know what happened to the picture of the fourth, and they're all in the US so I won't be looking for it.

I totally would bust a box of these - or more. They're certainly oddball enough for me to want a set!
